NSSA Regatta 2018 Report
Well, it’s been a great week and the KSSA sailors have done us proud: 1st in the Laser Radial, 1st in the Rookie Fleet, 1st in the Fast Handicap, 3rd in the Laser 4.7, 4th in the Medium Handicap, 5th in the Slow Handicap and some good results in the Topper Fleet too. Pierce and Imogen came second in the Mount Haes, and as team captains led by example with some amazing sailing and impeccable sportsmanship. A 5th successive team award was not to be this year. But looking at the new talent in the ranks, there is a very good chance that we will be bringing it back from Weymouth next year.
I would just like to add to Simon’s words above, thanking all the young sailors for making our team management job so easy with regard to behaviour on and off the water.
We had a few challenging moments, which were out of our control during the week, but all remained professional and in control. (Although I did have moment on Thursday when I stormed out the race office ?).
We would like to thank Sarah Cage- White for the admin. behind the scenes prior to the event. During the regatta, I had a strong team of helpers backing me up and apologise now if I miss you out!
Simon Herrington has been by my side quietly getting on with it when I was getting hot under collar. Dale Windrige for being team bosun (Wednesday waiting for transom parts coming by courier from RS and fixing the boat within an hour of arrival, great job). Andrew Baker as our representative on the race organisering team, doing a fine job in difficult conditions.
Helen Sharp for managing launch & recovery trolley logistics (my trolley dolly?). Deb & Karen for handling the lunches and sweet talking the catering team to get the inside line. The Chipstead Sailing Club cheerleaders: Sarah, Gitte and Claire keeping sprits up throughout! And many thanks to all the Kent safety boat teams: Simon, Dale, Big Tim, Little Tim, Paul, Dean, Helen & Noel.
Hopefully see you all at the next KSSA Event,
Well done everyone.
