2021 New Racers

KSSA New Racers event has been specially designed for young people without or with very limited racing experience and expertise. Here are a few pointers on how things will roll-out on the day.
BRIEFING: The day will start with a briefing at 09.30hrs on the Saturday morning but this will be preceded by an Online Briefing for all sailors and their supporters at 19.00hrs on Thursday 3rd June. The online link for the briefing will be sent to all entries by the Thursday morning 3rd June.
COACHES & HELPERS: The staffing of the event will be by the adults of KSSA & RSC with senior KSSA sailors coaching afloat in RIBs. Parents will be especially welcome on the shoreline to help their children with launch and recovery.
COVID LIMITATIONS: Unfortunately, we remain under some Covid 19 Pandemic restrictions and hence there will be a few special arrangements. Please remember throughout the Rule of 6, face masks & 2 meters social distancing.
FACILITIES: Redoubt SC is in a secure site and the access gates will be open 08.30-09.30hrs. Should you arrive later, please park up and use the pedestrian access gate – it’s only a short walk.
The RSC toilets will be open throughout the day but there are very limited changing facilities. There will be sheltered places to change & store your clothes if you are not able to arrive ready to go afloat.
Parents may wish to bring a fold away chair.

SAILING BOATS: We expect most of the action afloat to be in Optimist / Tera / Topper dinghies. You are very welcome to bring your own boats but there will be a supply of boats for hire at a small charge on a first come first served basis.
Parents help with moving & rigging / de-rigging boats on the shore will a great assistance.
REFRESHMENTS: People are welcome to bring a picnic for lunch and between action ‘nibbles’. We hope to offer hot drinks.
BRIEFINGS/ TEACH-INS/DEBRIEF/RESULTS: There will be an introductory session at 09.30hrs / rigging / several short races / further teach-ins / picnic lunch / further teach-in & races. There will be number of senior KSSA sailing coaching on the water and each of the races will be led by one of the senior KSSA young sailors in a Topper.
During the day there will also be a session specially for the supporting adults where we will try to explain what we are doing during the day and where this introductory activity could lead together with further advice on access to boats, personal clothing and equipment.
Because of the pandemic restrictions our briefing / teach-in sessions throughout the day will be held outdoors including the final Debrief and Presentation of Prizes.
ENTRY: KSSA events are organised for members but as this is an Introductory event the £10 KSSA membership fee will be waived if this is your first event.
Please enter and pay online in advance. Unfortunately, at the moment we cannot accept entries on the day. Entries will close at midnight on Wednesday 2nd June.
