2026 Opening Splash Regatta
First regatta of the 2026 season at Downs Sailing Club. This is a friendly competition open to all our youth sailors. As many of you will know by now, KSSA and Downs Sailing Cub are jointly hosting this year’s NSSA Regatta in July. Sailing will take place at Downs. So the Opening Splash taking part at Downs is an essential event to get used to the venue, waters and tides. Don’t miss out on this excellent opportunity!
ROOKIES: Please come and join the Regatta Fleet, even if its your first year of racing. You will have your own start and course with coaches on the water to help you.

SAILING INSTRUCTIONS: To be published closer to the event date.
ARRIVAL: This can be done from 08:00hrs on the green outside the club. Smaller boats, i.e. Toppers can be kept on their launching trollies and there will be matting down to the shoreline to help with access across the beach. Larger boats can be transferred to sledges which will be made available on the day. There are winches at the top of the beach to pull boats back up.
PARKING: There is free parking on the road.
REGISTRATION: from 08:30
BRIEFING: There will be a sailor briefing at 10:00. Please be changed and have boats rigged ready to go.
CATERING: Food and drinks will be available to purchase throughout the day’
COACHES & HELPERS: The staffing of the event will be by the adults of KSSA & DSC with coaches afloat in some RIBs to assist the less confident sailors. Parents will be especially welcome on the shoreline to help their children with launch and recovery.
ENTRY: You must enter and pay for this event online in advance using the WebCollect link below. Entry closes at midnight on the Wednesday before the event. In the event of cancellation entry fees will be refunded. If you’re not able to attend, please let us know by 10AM the day before the event (please refer to our refund policy).
KSSA MEMBERSHIP: All sailors need to be a member of KSSA. if this is your first KSSA event of 2026 you will need to join or renew your membership for the year. This costs just £10 for a family (Parents/Guardians, plus any number of sailors aged 18 or under on 31st August in the current year). It enables you to enter KSSA training and racing events this year. To join, please go to our MEMBERSHIP page and follow the instructions. You can pay online with your event entry.
